Seek and Live

They were seeking the treasure of their destiny, without wanting actually to live out the destiny. — Paulo Coelho_The Alchemist

Purpose is an important subject and aspect in and of each individual’s life. With the constant emphasis on purpose all around you, it’ll be easy to begin leaning towards actually discovering your purpose, but then the big question then becomes what you do with that discovery. Do you keep it at the back of your mind and continue living as you were? Or you make use of it to touch the lives you’re supposed to touch?

Discovering your purpose isn’t as important as living it. Discovery is just the first step. If you really want to live a purpose fulfilled life then you have to fulfill that purpose — in other words, fill up the space purpose has created in the universe. Whatever you’ve been made for has a bearing on the universe and affects both the universe and all in it, in ways you can’t explain. In the words of Paulo Coelho in his book, the alchemist; “when a man decides to travel the road of his destiny, the entire universe conspires to help him”. That man receives help to find and fulfill that purpose; help that comes from humans and nature alike. This should make you understand that nothing delights God more than a man who seeks to live in God’s will and fulfill God’s purpose for his life. Don’t just ask what is my purpose, add to it “what do I do with the knowledge of my purpose“?

Interestingly enough, your heart has a way of relating your purpose to you. It doesn’t do this so you may just get an understanding into your purpose without pursuing any action. It does this to help you receive all relevant understanding to successfully fulfill your purpose and calling.  When your heart understands how much you seek to fulfill your purpose — the reason for your being, your heart fulfills it’s purpose of leading you right where you’re going. It’s not for fun that Solomon admonishes us in the book of proverbs to “guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life“. The essence of life is hidden in your heart. Hence whatever you feed your heart is what it plays back to you. If you allow it to pick up on fear, hostility, suspicion and the like, that is exactly where your life would be skewed towards.

That being said, you wouldn’t discover your purpose outside yourself. It will surely manifest outwardly but without inward realization, it will amount to nothing. Have you had that moment when a friend mentioned a quality to you-you weren’t even aware of yourself? Sometimes, your calling is manifested for others to see, but can be fully explored only when you consciously commit to fulfilling it. A purpose-driven life doesn’t come cheap. It doesn’t come served on a silver platter. It’s a life that learns to appreciate the beauty in everything; learning from experience and growing better with each passing day and experience. Knowing your purpose doesn’t make it any easier on you, you’d still have to be vigilant enough to see through all that happens around you. Your purpose needs you to be actively involved with life, not passively watching from a distance. The whole universe is like a large puzzle; each piece, though it stands out and is unique in it’s own way still fits in perfectly to preserve the harmony and beautiful symphony of the universe at large.

We are all made to be specific. You can relate with other people and be as good as they are in their specificity, –after all, you can’t stay in the world alone. But you should never lose yourself in the midst of the differences. Maintain the voice of your specificity; somebody out there would be able to identify that faint voice of yours and that will mark the beginning of beauty in their life. Don’t shun the idea of living a life that revolves around purpose. Open your eyes to observe the beauty of the other purposes around you in the pursuit of yours. Look down on no one: whether they have discovered their path or not.

Live at peace with all men and let not the knowledge of your purpose and calling puff you up. Cause like it or not, knowledge has the tendency to puff up. Ultimately, always stay in touch with God who is the designer of your life and path. He knows what is best for you.
